How to measure & track what is most important

Hey, Reader,

Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.
-BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

The First Goal setter

Benjamin Franklin is typically thought of as the first prominent example of tracking goals.

Using a small book he wrote down 13 distinct virtues on one side of a page and each day of the week across the top.

At the end of each day he would review if he practiced the virtue he was working on. If he did, he'd give himself a dot for the day, the more dots on his paper the better.

Goals in Business

Ideas and ways to track and achieve goals have changed over time.

Nowadays, businesses track their goals and performance through tools called KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) but the process Franklin set up: intense, diligent focus, is still required.

Instead of a simple page with a dot next to each goal, the benefit we have today is the automation of tracking real-time work on our goals through a variety of means and technology.

Focus on the goal

The options of implementation are many but without focusing on the right goals, they become just another dashboard to look at or a box to check.
